Curated by Jo Cooke, one of the contributing editors of JamesSuckling.com, the list is one of the regional reports of the wine media platform that counts over 4 million followers globally. It’s a celebration of Italy’s unrivalled variety of grapes and styles and part of an extensive program of content about the country’s wines and culture released over the summer of 2020.
“This is a rich and layered white with cooked-apple, honey, lime and light vanilla character that flows across the palate. Medium to full body. Flavorful finish. Excellent depth and beauty. Blend of Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now”.

Batàr is widely acknowledged as one of Italy’s greatest white wines. According to our winemaker, Manfred Ing, the vintage 2017 was mainly characterised by its icy cold winter and a warm, long and dry summer. When the extremities of the seasons are so pronounced, the timing of the harvest is even more paramount in our winemaking: we managed to pick our Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay with optimal ripeness while the grapes still retained freshness and tension, fundamental characteristics that make Batàr so unique.
With minimal bâtonnage and nearly one month less of ageing in French oak barrels than usual, Batàr 2017 has a beautifully lifted white fruit intensity with aromas of apricot, chamomile, mint, peach and dried herbs. The textural complexities along with lively acidity and the velvety richness expected from the 2017 season, make for an enchanting and elegant wine that can be enjoyed at a young age as well as after a few years of evolution.
