New Vintage Releases Rated by James Suckling

Querciabella new releases earn rave reviews by James Suckling. The renown critic sings the praises of Camartina and Palafreno 2016, but he’s equally impressed by our latest vintages from Maremma. With all wines scoring well above 90 points, it’s Batàr 2018, though, that steals the show.

James Suckling publishes every year an astonishing number of wine reviews, including the anticipated new releases from the world’s best wine regions. This year posed more than a challenge, yet Suckling and his team managed to blind taste close to 25,000 wines. The most significant ratings are published on JamesSuckling.com and are read and respected by wine lovers, serious wine collectors and the wine trade alike.

Confirming his first impressions James Suckling endorses 2016 as one of the best vintages of the decade in Tuscany, especially in Chianti ClassicoCamartina and Palafreno well deserve the praises of the world-famous critic and follow those of Batàr 2016 that was chosen on JamesSuckling.com among this summer’s Top 100 Italian White Wines.

While very different in style – 2015 is about volume and elegance, 2016 about vibrancy, fragrance and density – the release of two spectacular vintages back to back confirms Tuscany as the strongest beacon for great Italian wines around the world.

Camartina 2016 · 94/100
“Very pretty and precise with tight tannins and polish. It’s linear and compact with blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry character. Racy and polished.

Palafreno 2016 · 94/100
A very solid red with blackberries, cherries and crushed stones that follow through to a full body with chewy tannins and loads of fruit, yet always tight and reserved.

But the good news doesn’t end here. In James Suckling’s comprehensive coverage of new releases, Querciabella wines from Maremma also scored excellent results. Vivid expressions of our vegan vineyards on Tuscany’s southern coast, Mongrana and Turpino receive more acclaim with each new vintage. Particularly Mongrana 2018 with its vibrancy and harmony is sure to wow crowds of wine lovers looking for excellent value.

Mongrana 2018 · 94/100
Plenty of fresh blackberry, blackcurrant leaf, pepper and licorice on the nose. It’s full-bodied with delicious, wild brambleberry and herb notes, framed by firm, elegant tannins. Long, fresh finish.

Mongrana 2017 · 93/100
Blackcurrants and black cherries on the nose here with some dried flowers and cedar. It’s medium-to full-bodied with juicy berries and chocolate. Firm and fine tannins. Tight on the finish.

Turpino 2017 · 93/100
A full-bodied, structured red with lots of blackcurrants, wild blackberries and cloves. Black olives, dried violets and raw cacao, too. Firm, slightly leafy tannins.

Just in:

Batàr 2018 · 95/100
Cooked apple, honey and light vanilla with some stone and praline undertones. Full-bodied with layers of fruit and flavourful finish. White peaches, too. Fantastic white.

With the exception of Turpino 2017 and Batàr 2018 that will be officially launched in Spring 2021, all Querciabella new releases are available for purchase.
