At Querciabella, we are enormously grateful for the attention that Walter always puts into reviewing our new releases and digging deep into our winemaking philosophy. So seeing our wines score high on JancisRobinson.com in his latest reports fills us with pride.
Querciabella’s Sangiovese reaches new heights at Chianti Classico Collection
In our vision, the Sangiovese grape is the seal on the sacred bond between territory and wine, thanks to its ability to interpret the nuances of each vineyard site and bring them to the bottle. The precision we put working the varietal lot-by-lot has paved the way for the release of our Gran Selezione, the pinnacle of our quality pyramid. At the same time, it has helped us raise the bar of varietal expression with our Annata and Riserva.
This year’s spotlight at Anteprima of Chianti Classico was on the significance of the denomination’s new subzones. The first two vintages of Querciabella Gran Selezione embody our ideal expression of the Greve UGA; therefore, we could not be more pleased to have them picked as the best of the bunch. Querciabella Chianti Classico 2020 also earned the top spot (17,5/20) among the producers from the Greve UGA and is tied for the highest-rated 2020 wine across all the Annata, Riserva and Gran Selezione!
Last but not least, for the second year in a row, Querciabella Riserva 2019 is crowned best in its Class, scoring 18/20, thus being one of the best wines throughout Speller’s annual report.

Lustrous mid ruby. Perfumed and concentrated on the nose and finely balanced on the palate. Lots of polished tannins and vibrant red fruit. Suave and long. —WS
Riserva 2019 · 18/20
Beautiful intensity of fruit and with a whisper of oak. Suave, tangy, deep raspberry fruit with gorgeous, chewy tannins that stick to the fruit. In for the long haul. Stunning balance between gripping, ripe tannins and deep, tangy fruit. —WS
Gran Selezione 2018 · 17.5/20
Supple and juicy and concentrated, but suave at the same time. Great precision for this vintage and with long, gravelly tannins. The finish is an impressive whole of tangy, succulent cherry fruit with long, gravelly tannins. Impressive for the vintage. Elegant. —WS
Gran Selezione 2017 · 18/20
Lifted. Gorgeous, succulent and fruity, with bags of tannins that support the fruit. Suave and with lots of juice. Perfectly balanced, nothing sticks out. A triumph for this vintage and ageworthy. —WS
Irresistible Batàr
Every year, Armit Wines Portfolio Tasting in London offers professionals and wine lovers the opportunity to taste some of the best Italian wines on the UK market. Traditionally the great country Reds, like Barolos and Super Tuscans, steal the scene. However, in an unexpected but welcome twist, Walter focused only on whites this year, a testament to the rise of the category to the wine elite. Side by side with Tiberio and Roagna, Querciabella shines with Batàr 2020 among Italy’s white gems.

Creamy and a little rich on the palate and gaining enormously in depth on the finish with salty minerally notes. Fantastic focus and length. Already irresistible but I wouldn’t open this for at least another two to three years. —WS
