Galloni reviews Chianti Classico new vintage releases

Antonio Galloni highly praises Querciabella on his annual report on Chianti Classico – More Than Meets The Eye.

Antonio Galloni’s lifetime of total immersion in Italian wine has earned him the reputation as one of the most respected wine critics in the world. For the first time in many, many years Galloni was not able to make his usual summer trip to Tuscany. Nevertheless, the annual report Chianti Classico: More Than Meets The Eye offers great insight into the appellation’s latest vintage.

Balance reigns supreme in 2018, a year with regular weather conditions that produced gracious wines of immense pleasure. According to Galloni, Querciabella Chianti Classico 2018 is all class from start to finish (93/100) and among a dozen wines that offer outstanding quality, value and pedigree.

Manfred Ing and his team at Querciabella presented a terrific set of wines. The move towards greater energy and vibrancy that started a handful of years ago is evident. It’s hard to know where to start, as all of these wines are deserving of a mention.

Querciabella wines have all scored above the 90-points mark, an outstanding achievement considering that with the exception of Mongrana, they haven’t been officially released yet and will further improve after more bottle ageing. With a score of 96/100 Palafreno leads the charge, but it’s the overall performance that sets us apart as one of the best estates of the region.
