Bruce Sanderson Reviews Querciabella on Wine Spectator

Querciabella gets Sanderson’s thumbs up on Wine Spectator

Wine Spectator and Bruce Sanderson in particular, have often shown appreciation for Querciabella wines. Most recently, Mongrana 2018 was picked last year for the publication’s Top Value Wines of 2020 and Querciabella stood out for quality and value in the annual Tuscan review.
To our great satisfaction, this year, too, we celebrate the latest wine releases from Chianti Classico with a round of remarkable scores and great reviews.

2016: a vintage to remember!

There is little doubt that the 2016 vintage is gearing up to one of the defining vintages of the past decade. While very different in style – 2015 is about volume and elegance, 2016 about vibrancy, fragrance and density – the release of two spectacular vintages back to back confirms Tuscany as the strongest beacon for great Italian wines.

The generous weather conditions steadily led to the harvesting of perfectly ripe grapes, the ideal platform for wines of incredible balance. With a score of 95/100, Camartina 2016 echoes the remarkable Camartina 2015 that Bruce Sanderson picked last year among his TOP 10 Tuscan wines, and Palafreno 2016, has already won a place among the most prestigious bottlings of the last decade.

Camartina 2016 · 95/100
“Ripe, sweet black currant, black cherry, iron, leather and tobacco flavors mingle in this tightly-wound red. Balanced, dense and remains focused and persistent on the lingering finish. Decant now, or age another year or two.” —BS

Palafreno 2016 · 94/100
“Black cherry and banana peel aromas segue to dark, brooding blackberry, plum, iron and underbrush flavors in this austere, powerful red. Dusty tannins leave a strong grip as this plays out on the long finish.” —BS

Just in: the first review of Querciabella Chianti Classico 2018

As we are preparing for its official release, the timing could not have been better for the first review of Querciabella Chianti Classico 2018. Thanks to regular weather patterns and a prolonged ripening season, 2018 is another vintage that is worth keeping an eye on.

Querciabella Chianti Classico 2018 · 90/100
“This red shows some depth to the black cherry, black currant, iron and tobacco aromas and flavors. There is a hint of tar, and the firm structure is well-integrated.” —BS

Camartina 2016 and Palafreno 2016 are available to buy. Querciabella Chianti Classico 2018 is due for release at the end of May 2021.
